Every prospective buyer should complete and sign a registration form before making a bid at auction. You will be given a number which you should hold up for the auctioneer to see if you are bidding.
If you cannot attend the sale you can complete a commission bid form which instructs Batemans to bid on a lot on your behalf. Since this service is undertaken as a free service to prospective buyers on the terms stated, we cannot accept liability for failure to make a commission bid. Prospective buyers should therefore always attend personally if they wish to be certain of bidding. PLEASE NOTE: It is the responsibility of the prospective buyer to contact Batemans after the completion of the sale to establish whether their bid was successful and to arrange collection and payment within the allotted three days following the sale.
Batemans can also arrange to contact bidders to enable them to participate in the bidding by telephone - please complete a form available at the office.
In addition to the hammer price, a buyer's premium at the rate of 15% of the hammer price of each lot (together with any Value Added Tax chargeable thereon) is payable by the buyer to Batemans for their own retention and will not be waived.Value Added Tax is always payable on the premium. VAT is charged at the prevailing rate unless otherwise stated.
All payments must be made in pounds sterling. Banker's Drafts should be made payable to Batemans (personal and business cheques are not accepted). We accept all major credit and debit cards, but not American Express. Credit card payments by VISA and MASTERCARD will be subject to a 2.65% surcharge of the total amount payable. There is no surcharge for UK debit card payments. Non UK debit cards are subject to a 2.65% surcharge.
All items must be paid for and collected within THREE days following the end of the sale - ie. Wednesday of the following week. Where purchases are not collected within three days after the sale, whether or not payment has been made, we shall arrange storage at the buyer's expense, charged at £1 per lot, per day thereafter, and only release the items purchased after payment has been made in full of storage, removal, insurance and any other cost incurred, together with all other amounts due to us.
