This is a unique opportunity to join a busy and successful provincial auctioneers at a senior level. We're looking for someone pro-active and highly motivated to take an active role in helping to expand our business, to be involved in all aspects of running both the monthly auctions of Fine art, Antiques and Collectables and General Household sales in our town-centre saleroom, and in doing so benefit personally from the increased revenue their impact will have on the business through a profit - share scheme. Batemans is a small, friendly, family-run auctioneers and valuers based in the historic market town of Stamford in Lincolnshire (approx. 1 ½ hours by road from London). The successful applicant will complement our two current partners and valuers, Kate and Ron Bateman and our team of saleroom staff.
The successful applicant will be mainly office-based, and expected to deal with daily client enquiries and to give valuations on items brought to our saleroom. They will also be involved in all stages of the auction timetable - to include working with the saleroom team in cataloguing, photographing lots and computer data entry as well as physically helping to set out the saleroom. Rostrum experience would be a benefit.
You must have: at least ten years experience in working / running a saleroom and excellent overall knowledge of valuing fine art / antiques, including paintings, porcelain, silver, furniture, jewellery, militaria, etc.
You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be polite, enthusiastic, highly motivated and computer literate.
Have a strong list of contacts within the world of art and antiques to help garner additional business - both buyers and sellers.
Have a full, clean driving license.
Be physically able to help lift furniture and boxes and occasionally assist with regular house clearances / deliveries.
Be able to work alone or as part of a small team.
