Required: Junior Valuer
/ Auction House Assistant.
£15,000 per annum. Immediate start.
A one-year placement
to cover the maternity leave of one of our Partners,
this is a unique opportunity to learn and be involved
in all aspects of running a busy and successful provincial
auctioneers.
Batemans is a small, friendly, family-run
auctioneers and valuers based in the historic market
town of Stamford in Lincolnshire (approx. 1 ½ hours
by road from London). We hold monthly auctions of fine
art, antiques and collectables in our town-centre saleroom.
The
successful applicant will be expected to deal with
client enquiries and to give valuations on items
brought to our saleroom office. They will also be involved
in all stages of the auction timetable - to include
cataloguing, photographing lots and computer data
entry as well as physically helping to set out the
saleroom. Rostrum experience can be gained if desired.
You
must have: a good overall knowledge of fine art /
antiques valuing including paintings, porcelain, silver,
furniture, jewellery etc.
You will have excellent interpersonal
skills, be polite, enthusiastic, motivated and
computer literate. (To use Word, Excel, Email and the
Internet. Training on auction-specific Bidmaster software
will be given.)
Have a full, clean driving license.
Be
physically able to help lift furniture and boxes on
occasion.
Be able to work alone or as part of a small
team.
