Batemans monthly auctions contain mainly pre-Edwardian furniture (dated before 1910), but also include a section of more modern pieces.
Georgian and Regency items sell particularly well here as Stamford is mainly a Georgian town and the restrained elegance of this period
furniture is very popular at the moment. Both English and continental furniture is sold, - pine kitchen furniture like dressers and stripped
pine tables regularly sell at very reasonable prices.

Good English furniture keeps it's value well and is relatively inexpensive
at the moment, especially when compared to prices for new furniture - now is certainly the time to buy an 18th century oak coffer or
Georgian chest of drawers. Whether you're setting up home or just adding a few select pieces of interest to your home,
auction is the place to buy!

This partners desk we sold recently goes to show the importance of provenance
on a piece - sold on behalf of a local business, it once belonged to the infamous MP John Profumo, and this helped it to realise
an above-estimate price of £3,200. If only furniture could talk!

Batemans also sell architectural, garden ornaments and statuary,
such as this marble 6ft statue of a veiled woman which sold for £5,400
- the seller was going to leave it in her garden when she moved house, thinking it was concrete, but luckily one of our valuers spotted it
and suggested she try it at auction!
